World Sight Day or the Right to Sight

Journée mondiale de la vue

Every 2nd Thursday of October, World Sight Day is celebrated! This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of preventing and improving vision worldwide. This event has been around for about twenty years, and its goal is also to sound the alarm: more than two billion people in the world need glasses, and 80% of visually impaired people could have healthy vision if they had access to eye health services.

This is why many optical professionals, ophthalmologists, opticians, the ASNAV, etc., are mobilizing in France by offering various actions:

  • free eye tests
  • screening for eye diseases and disorders
  • raising awareness among young people about the impact of overexposure to screens
  • glasses collection
  • information on visual health for all: driving and vision, eye protection at work, screens and eye strain...

These initiatives aim to draw attention to the need to take care of one's eyes and vision. Unfortunately, in France, 2 million people have never had visual check-ups! Moreover, 4 out of 5 blind people in the world could be avoided with simple care...
